in automation of aerospace processes, Pratt & Whitney
Automation, Inc., has provided robotic systems used in
manufacturing many of the military
air and space vehicles in production today.
PWA provides engineering, design, validation, installation,
training and maintenance of automated manufacturing technology
for an entire manufacturing facility or for a single coating
or coating removal system. Our experience allows us to design
turnkey automated systems that process your product for a
total solution to your needs.
PWA
engineers can build a digital model of the entire automated
coating application process in the virtual world of the computer.
We take your requirements through this digital process and
validate the PWA approach to meeting your automation needs.
This allows us to significantly reduce risk and costs, while
ensuring process accuracy and technical viability. The digital
model can then be validated through our lab testing to ensure
that all of the customer's requirements are met. By using
this approach, we can tackle the tough jobs of working with
new or exotic materials or manufacturing processes that are
not fully defined.
PWA has brought its experience in automated system integration
to the production of stealth fighter and bomber aircraft,
cruise missiles, UAVs and heavy lift rockets. These large
manufacturing systems now rely on PWA turnkey solutions.

PWA technical and engineering personnel have experience integrating
material removal systems into new or existing aerospace environments.
We provide total or subcomponent integrated systems:
- high pressure water jet coating removal systems (robotic
manipulators, booths, water reclamation systems)
- pulse laser coating removal
- media (sand/garnet/plastic/Sodium bicarbonate) blasting
removal automated systems or major subcomponents
- automated grinding or polishing of metal and glass (flat
or contoured/varying geometry) with 5 or 6 axis robotics,
active force compliance, and user interface
These systems may also involve vision
guided and/or vison inspection systems, booths designed and built
for the environment, force compliance devices, and Graphical
User Interfaces (GUI) operator stations.
PWA has used its engineering experience in the production of composite
and aluminum aircraft panels, radomes, aircraft glass, and
helicopter engine containers.
